Donald Trott Executive Chairman
Wanganui-born Donald Trott ONZM JP has had a lifelong devotion to singing and the art of opera. In 1994 he established the NZ Opera School and acts as leader and mentor to the annual January student intake. In the late 1980’s, he spearheaded the establishment of a new trust to produce professional opera in the newly opened Aotea Centre, and remained its chairman until 1994. Until recently he remained a board director and the benefaction fundraiser for the now national company New Zealand Opera. He is a trustee of the New Zealand Opera Foundation. A passionate arts advocate, Donald was more recently involved in the management and fundraising for the total refurbishment of the Auckland Town Hall organ, and was also a trustee of the Auckland University Summer Shakespeare.
Jonathan Alver Director
Jonathan Alver trained as an opera singer and singing teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music, becoming the youngest ever baritone graduate. Since then he has amassed more than 25 years’ experience in operatic, theatrical, screen and event production and direction in the UK, US and New Zealand, alongside establishing and leading, New Zealand’s major opera company the NBR New Zealand Opera. His operatic and theatrical productions include Lucia di Lammermoor (NZ & US), Macbeth (NZ & US), Aida (NZ), Falstaff (NZ), La Bohème (NZ), Madame Butterfly (NZ), Showboat (London Palladium) and Jailhouse Rock: The Musical (West End). He also established New Zealand Opera’s emerging artist and outreach programmes.
